Yes it was a mix of both but def not whim. The tech notes say that the error relates directly to stuck ram and also the chip I replaced was warm so 2+2=fixed amp.

floydian, it was one of the 2 identical chips side by side on the rom board (DSP) but in the pic it is underneath not on top like the one I listed.
I am very pleased to announce that I have solved the problem.
On the DSP board there are 2 1 meg 4 bit cmos ram chips. One (IC19) was getting slightly warm and so looking it up it is a common as mud chip found on ram for computers etc.
I have now replaced it and the amp works great.
Channels switch as they should, the 24 bit processor is all working again etc.
So if you have a D2 or E2 error and stuck on one channel it is most likely to be a $1 faulty ram chip.
