  • Reverb issues w/ a Peavey Classic 30

Hi everyone, I was doing some research on my problem and found these forums.

I have a few questions. This is my first ever tube amp so I dont know much about it as I have been playing on solid states all my life.

ok, when I switch on my reverb channel alone, it works fantastic.
If I have any other effect, including the amps integrated distortion channel on and then I switch on the reverb, about 5-10 seconds later it starts letting out a high pitched noise, almost like feedback but not as loud. It is a used amp so maybe the reverb box in the back is going bad. Im not sure, I dont know much about the internal stuff.

Also, for future reference, what are the best tubes to use for amp like this and a classic rock/blues sound?

    Thanks for any help

Try moving the reverb tank around and see if there's a sweet spot where there's no feedback. A lot of times, the reverb tank can pickup the sound from the speaker and loop it back through the amp creating a high pitched ring or feedback loop.

There are probably two screws that hold the reverb tank or bag in place. Remove the screws and at a low volume and the reverb up, move the tank around (may make a loud bang noise a the springs clange around from movement, this is normal) until you find a spot where, at higher volumes, there is minimal to no feedback.
