  • Marshall Valvestate 8080 big noise when starting up

    Hello.
Even if all pots are put down at zero, my 8080 makes a loud pop at start for years. It seems to be a common problem on this amp but i didn't find any same case in this forum.
A friend of mine told me it's probably a thermic condenser to replace, but i opened the beast and saw no component burned or damaged.

    Is anyone having an idea?
    Thank you very much.

Many solid state amps do exacly that - pop when the power switch is flipped.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Just wondering what a thermic condenser is.
Sounds like something from a refrigeration system.

Yes, i know thermic resistors, but i'm also cautious about a thermic condenser, i admit.
I had the idea of putting a switch at the baffle, so it won't be harmed when i'll start up. But it doesn't eliminates the problem...

Strangely, my pig of an 8080 no longer pops on startup since I changed out the input jack. Despite the myriad other problems with the amp, it no longer pops. Maybe worth looking into?
