  • Super Champ XD Stuck On Channel 2

Yep, it's stuck on Channel two and the effects don't switch off when using the pedal. The amp was given to me from a tech that was trashing it because it was turned in for warranty repair. Apparently Fender sais toss em instead of fix em. I think somebody tried a new chip (U1) because it was right on the the tips of the leads with no solder on the bottom of the board. There was a transistor in similar shape. I soldered both in nicely and the problem lives on. The amp sounds really fat on channel two. I give a little kick with an overdrive and it's suweet! But... the techie in me wants to get this thing 100%. Before I go rooting around with the DMM I figured I would see if anybody else has experienced this one. Thanks.

I would look at the solder connections on the footswitch jack. A quick check would be to loosen the footswitch jack nut and wiggle the jack to see if it's loose or changes the status of the effects or allows the channels to change.

Just a suggestion. Fender warranty policy mandates we replace rather than repair certain low cost amp models. Fender doesn't want to pay us $50 to fix an amp they can make for $20.

As a service center, we wind up with the dead amp. We are instructed to destroy the dead amp after removing anything we consider useful. Now it probably is not a secret that many of us just keep them and even fix them. We might remove the serial number, and some of them might even find their way donated to certain music programs in the area. But we are not supposed to. So it might be polite to not mention that your tech is breaking those rules. In other words, let's just fix your amp, and not concern ourselves where it came from.

SO, are you using the factory footswitch? A plain old two button switch won;t work. With no FS, are the panel controls not working?

The schematic has voltages for all states on the switching circuit. How do your voltages compare?

Fellow members, I appreciate your prompt reponses. Pecorporation, I will give your suggestion a try. I had the circuit board all the way out at which time I gave all of the solder joints a look over. I did some continuity tests and generally speaking things checked out. Never the less your suggestion is worth a try. Thanks.

Enzo, the tech was actually in process of throwing the amp in the trash when I grabbed it. If you will allow I will take back what I said about the tech giving me the amp. While he and I where in casual conversation he showed it to me and explained Fender's policy. The serial number had been removed and the amp was in pieces. Thanks for straightenin me out on that.

Yes, I am using the factory pedal for the SXCD. The led on the front of the amp is lit. All of the knobs on channel 2 work fine with or without the pedal. The effects knobs are also working with or without the pedal. The pedal lights as if it is changing the channels/effects but nothing happens. I haven't checked any voltages yet.

Not Enough Time In One Day

Enzo, I will most likely be using the amp this weekend to see how it stands up in a small setting. Since channel 2 seems to working ok I will see how it holds up with another guitar and some drums. I have a busy, busy schedule and I won't be able to open it back up till Monday. I appreciate you taking the time to offer your assistance.

I gave the loose footswitch jack a try. Nothing changed
Once I start checking voltages maybe something'll show up. Thanks again.

              WOW

Man, I took this thing along to jam with some friends and I was quite impressed.

Since getting it, I put in a new speaker, some new tubes and set the bias.

I was using setting 14 and had the volume on about 5, gain at 3-4. I'm playing a Tom Anderson Hollow T using an H2+ pickup primarily. Running through a Centaur for lead playing.

Oh ma gawd! This thing was nice. Playing mostly hard rock and classic rock it easily hung with a set of drums and another guitar through a Pro Deluxe.

Since Iwasn't doing much clean playing, channel 2 was all I needed and needless to say I was very pleasantly suprised.

Enzo, please forgive me for now...
