Im having problems with my signature 5150 head. When the amp is inflicted with vibrations or for no good reason at all it will buzz and crackle and such. It happens very loudly with no relation to pre or post gain settings. It also happens with the standby switch is off but only after the standby switch had been on and the noises happen at much lower volume.
After I opened the amp up I seem to have narrowed the culprit to large brown capacitor.
(Through the process of taping the board with rubber and listening for a more consistent and sensitive reaction) I could very well be completely wrong but the area that seems the most sensitive is that cluster of capacitors.
After some research I came across this thread: http://www.amptalk.com/message-board...highlight=5150
From another amp tech site from 2 years ago. The problem with that thread is he doesn’t mention what things he re-soldered or anything like that. This is basically all I could find on this problem.
I don’t have very many tools or a lot of money but I need this fixed. (Just like everyone else)
However I do have a small amount of electronic knowledge and can solder well.
If any one can help in any way please do.
Also if you live near the Clearwater, FL area and would be willing to help in person I can trade web design services or I could help your band out with some local connections.
Respect and thanks to all,
Spencer
