  • Crate GT-50H Combo Amp

I literally found a free gt-50h combo amp in a dumpster! and it works! however, there are kind of alot of problems with it. #1) Reverb(s) do not work at all. I already loosened the spring reverb box cuz the PO screwed it down tight (which i believe is a no-no). #2) the amplifier consistently stops working after about 15 minutes of use (low volume only). #3) The amp has clearly been messed with before.I inspected the inside and someone butchered the screw holes for the speaker. there are only about 4 or 5 screws holding the speaker in and they are mostly towards the top of the speaker. So i know the amp was abused. If you have ideas about what i can do for any of the mentioned problems please let me know. Its got really cool tone, and if all the functions were working properly it would be a great addition to my guitar equipment. Thanks to all who help. Oh and when i found it there was foil wrapped around one of the fuses cuz the idiot who had it before me thought that would help.

Hi, and welcome to the MEF.

    Congratulations on the dumpster dive!

The first thing would be to replace that foil-wrapped fuse with a new fuse of the proper type and rating. I'm guessing that you've done that already and the amp still works without blowing any fuses, yes?

      Re:

Yes I have replaced the fuse and no they do not pop. Im hoping that its just old tubes that need to be replaced (I know this has nothing to do with the reverb not working though). However, I wouldn't know which tubes are bad, meaning I don't want to spend a lot of money on tubes and have the same problems still exist. I also forgot to add that the tubes get really hot while playing. Before you think Im a complete newbie I have another tube amp, however its a peavey bravo 112 with built in cooling fans+ the tubes aren't exposed so I dont really know how hot/warm they are supposed to get (yes i know they heat up lol)Oh, and how do I get the quick reply to work on this forum? I dont understand the little message it says in grey letters down there! thanks for replying, i was losing hope!
