Hello all.
Recently my Bugera 333xl 212 combos lead and crunch channels lost all of their "normal" sound. They went from both being very distinct to both almost sounding identical. If I set the gain and EQ at the same settings on both channels (all at 12 o clock) they sound almost exactly the same. The sound is very dull and lifeless compare to what it once was. The clean channel still sounds like it did to begin with and isn't affected as far as I can tell.
When I first purchased the amp one of the stock power tubes was bad so I replaced them with JJ 6l6's and everything was and sounded fine up until now. When i changed the tubes originally I did not re-bias, I only flipped the switch to 6l6 and went with it.
When I first noticed the problem I decided to order new power tubes (JJ 6l6 again) and a bias probe from eurotubes. I have the new tubes in now and set the bias to around 42. One thing to note is that I had to flip the switch to the EL34 setting as the 6l6 setting would only let me bias up to around 35 or so.
After doing this it made no difference in sound. Using the high or low gain inputs yields the same sound and also using different guitars with different pickups does not matter.
I typically use a Line 6 M13 in front of the amp for effects and I am wondering if that somehow damaged the amp? Far fetched I know but I am just curious as to what could have happened here. Being a Bugera I know anything is possible but the amp was fine for 6 months and then all of a sudden "went bad". For the testing on the amp, the Line 6 is completely out of the picture and I am going straight in. I've used different cables and also moved the amp to different locations to see if that would help to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
