  • Hiwatt 200 problems

    hi.

I have a Hiwatt DR200 4xKT88. My problem is that the amplifier plays very very low and very distorted. I have checked everything, I think: o) Are there some who have a good bid for what could be wrong?

    Best regards

It would be handy to tell us what you have checked, so that we don't suggest stuff you have already tried.

    Open/burned PI plate resistor?

    Open/burned screen grid resistors?

How do the dc voltages check out?

PI plate resistors checked everything just fine.

      Screengrid resistors checked everything fine

Tube checked and replaced as an option

      DC all okay

Inputs checked, tube sockets checked, pots checked all wirring checked.

Nothing seams to work, bias super

      Im lost

OT primary winding DCR checked from each end to the CT?

Better still, pull the tubes & apply 0.5VAC (measured) to the speaker jack, measure AC developed at primaries & determine turns ratio...to eliminate the OT as a problem.

0.5VAC on the speaker out, I measure about 3VAC on the pri.

            OK, so...

            3VAC divided by 0.5 = 6VAC

            6VAC squared = 36

            36x 8ohms speaker load = 288ohms Primary Z.

            36x 16ohms speaker load = 576ohms Primary Z.

...your OT is shot. Should be around 1.5-2K primary Z.
