  • plugging 8 ohm speaker into super reverb

    Hi everyone,
I know that plugging an 8-ohm speaker into a blackface super clone that's rated for 2-ohms could cut the life of the tubes.......but could it harm the amp?
    Thanks for your feedback.

Yes it could harm the amp, 4x the rated load impedance is pushing it too far, the insulation on the plate circuit (output transformer primary winding, tube sockets) could get damaged by flyback voltage. Plus the 6L6 screen grids will be dissipating lots of power, way over their rating if the amp gets overdriven.
