  • Hookup wire

I've got tons of wire rated up to 300 volts, but what do you guys do when you need higher voltages? B+ in my latest amp project is 508 volts for example.

The hookup wire from Parts Express doesn't have a voltage rating, unfortunately (real shame cause they've got a good color selection). There's 12 ga stranded THWN rated 600v from the local home improvement store but I don't need that heavy a gauge, and they only come in a few colors.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Teflon wire is rated for 600v. I got some from bulkwire.com, but you can find it elsewhere. Mcmaster Carr sells 600v wire as well, I'm not sure what the insulation type is though.

I just use the 300V rated stuff regardless.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

I don't wanna talk you into using wire that's got no appropriate rating.
But long ago in the lack of appropriate wire I built an amp with wire used in cars for everything in there from lights to electronics.
I believe it was at around 22 gauge and the amps been playing fine ever since.

I think that's what I'll do, making sure it doesn't rub against the steel chassis...

          Thanks!
