I was going to keep quiet about this, but I have to step in and back Dave up.

WD-40 is not a switch cleaner!

Scratch DJs famously like to use it on their crossfaders, but it just wrecks them.

Most switch cleaners are flammable and shouldn't be used on equipment under power. An aerosol can of the British "Super Servisol" brand actually makes a better flamethrower than WD-40.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

fwiw I've had success removing a hard to remove push on knob using a piece of thin rope (thick string?) tied into a loop and worked under the knob to give better leverage when pulling. The rope is cloth so it shouldn't scratch anything.

I use parcel string/rope in the same way as Dai with best results, even on ultra tight knobs on old LesPauls etc. but I'm not quite sure whether it works on superglued knobs.

was just thinking maybe two (strings) on each side of the pot might give even better leverage for pulling the knob up. Just the same idea as the tool, but I'd imagine you can get string/thin soft rope most anyplace globally
