  • Rats in the Peavey

Hi all, Rats got in my Peavey bass amp (that's all it says on it). I think it is a 400 series. 210 watts out into 2 ohms. Does anybody have any experience on these heads?

    Yumm... rats! Value added...

Could you be a bit more specific what the problem is with the amp?

      Does it look like this?

This was the last version of the Series 400, rated 210 watts into 2 ohms. I think it's called the "B" version on the schematics.

The "A" version (an earlier version often seen on the 'bay) was simpler, it didn't have all the EQ and distortion.

      I've got schematics.

        Yep, that's it Nashville.
Fragger, they ate the connecting wires.

Do you have the footswitch? This amp has some cool switching capabilities. The fuzz/distortion is kinda cheesy but for the mid 70's I think this amp probably compared well to some of the other higher-end solid-state amps.

Here's the schematic and owners manual.

The output transistors were 2N3772 I believe, there's something like 8 of them (hence the 2 ohm rating). It had enough power for most any gig I played with it--there was only one band with a very loud guitarist and drummer where it didn't quite have enough oomph...

Sorry, don't have the footswitch. May make one now. Anyone got any pics of the inside? Got a couple wires can't tell where they go.

If I can get time over the weekend, I'll try to dig mine up out of the basement and take some pics, but who knows what's been planned for me....

I haven't been able to dig the amp out of the basement yet, but I'll try this weekend, if you still want pics PM me with your email address (they'll be large file size).
