  • Low volume issue

Hi. Only just joined this forum but looking for advice. I have a 'Torque T1001EB' Bass amp. It had a problem when i bought it, it would power up but when i plugged a guitar in I had to turn the volume right up to hear anything. I then turned the volume on the guitar up and gave it a good strum and pop went the fuses in the power supply and also pop went the two output transistors! so, I replaced the output trannies (2N3055's) and one 100k resistor which has overheated but was still reading ok and did a passive check on every other component on the power amp board (its a fairly basic thing) and tried again, again, hardly any volume. I turned it off this time before blowing the output again but wonderd if anyone had any ideas? You may not be familiar with the make but its a common enough layout. The amp has hardly been used which is why i was repairing it to sell it on.
    Any help appreciated
    Andy

Disconnect th speaker and try a different speaker. Also check the speaker wiring to make sure it is not shorted across.

Yep, you were spot on! I tried another speaker and it was fine. such a shame as the speaker in it looks almost brans new and is a 15 inch Eminence one. The cone seems free and the coil resistance measures about 4 ohms (not sure what it should measure, the one I tried as a test was a 15 inch Fane and it measures 12 ohms.
Still, fault found, replacement speaker on its was, many thanks for your help.
