  • 65 Twin Reverb RI Reverb Noise

When I crank up the reverb to above 4, I begin to get some buzz (I might simply call it trash). I have taken the (2) existing 12AT7's and swapped places and I think it has gotton a little better but I don't have a db meter to confirm, which really means it has not gotton a lot betteror I could hear it. Recently acquired this amp and the pre-amp tubes say "fender" so I assume they are original. S/N indicates the amp is a 1992 model. Could the 12AT7's be the cause of the noise??? Should I go ahead and replace these 2 tubes or should I replace the entire pre-amp tube bank 12AX7's as well. The power tubes seem fine on both channels.

    Thanks,

make sure the reverb cables are well seated into the jacks on the chassis and at the tank.

i had a similar problem and it was the bypass capacitor that was blown from the reverb circuit
check inside for blown capacitors in the reverb circuit

What you call "Buzz" it's hum or just a "hiss" noise in the background?.

Usually i change the shielded wire with a better quality one, including one with double shield on it and quality RCA connectors.

If your problem is "hum" it's normal since the reverb inductors are much like "single coils" (note the quotes). There is a way to reduce hum using the same tecnique in hum-bucking design.

If i'm right the "buzz" might be just HUM and it's kinda normal to have a little as a background noise. However u can reduce it.
