  • Ampeg B2 Combo Explodin'

    Hi,

I checked some of the previous posts. I'm not sure what's going on with this amp, but I'm being told by others that they simply won't work on them anymore! So one last try. This amp was losing volume after being used for about 30 min's on average. I went back checked solder points. I actually corrected quite a few. Went to test without the heat sink on and poof! Stupid. I went back and replaced all of the P240's (they didn't look good, the P940's seemed fine). The 2n5415's were replaced as well as R45, R20, R21, R28, and just cuz they looked fuggly, D26, D25, C15, R46, D29, R78, R27, Q3, Q5 and poof! I tested it with heat sink and it blew up again. This time just at R45, and R20 and poof!... So I'm just a little concerned that if I replace those two resistors and go for another round, I'll get black face again. Any help is really, really appreciated.

Check posts about using a light bulb limiter in series with the ac mains when turning the amp on to test it. Also it may be possible to test the driver stages with the outputs disconnected. I'm sure someone will chime in with a better explanation.

I can definitely give that a go. Thanks so much!
