  • New amp build, tons of issues...

Just finished a amp that I've been working on, and I've run into what I would consider major problems. I have 4 builds under my belt already, and have never experienced these problems, so hopefully someone can help push me in the right direction.

I'll start with my PT. I have the secondaries completely disconnected right now, since I think the PT may be the cause of some of my other issues.

    I'm using a Hammond 290HX. http://www.hammondmfg.com/pdf/EDB290HX.pdf

I'm getting correct voltages of ~176v on the yellow to gray and yellow to blue.

I'm also getting ~104v on the white bias wire. So far, so good.

Now it gets screwy on the heater winding. I'm getting 68v on each of the black wires, and if I connect the center tap to ground I get around 42v on each of the wires. I'm seriously going crazy on this one, is the heater winding bunk on this PT? I ordered it long ago and don't think I can return it..

Okay, got that one figured out. I was using the wrong green wire.

So that leads me to the next issue. After rectification, I'm getting 498vdc for the B+. Right where it should be. I'm using a standard JCM800 power supply and power amp. My preamp tubes are seeing the correct volatges, yet my phase inverter is only seeing 130vdc on each half of the tube. For the life of me I can't understand why, since the tubes after it are seeing proper voltages. Bad tube maybe?

Once again, nevermind... I figured it all out.

Glad you figured it out. I also find it helps to think out loud via a forum sometimes. Happy tweaking.

Yeah actually that's what did it. Just random things that I overlooked. Time to build another!
