fender twin reverb low thud

i have a fender quad reverb. i got it retubed and biased. since the speakers dont sound very good and its so heavy, i stuck it in my friends frontman cab (he blew the amp in it so he didnt want the speakers)

so now its a twin

my problem is that when its on high gain/ a distortion pedal and i play low bass notes or hit my guitar there is a low loud thud from the speakers. what do you think that is?

i was thinking its the filter capacitors. does that sound right to anyone?

Maybe the new speakers just can't take your awesome br00tal gain. Try turning the bass down on the amp and distortion pedal.

But yeah, wait for a second opinion from Loudthud.

Loud thud that cuts the sounds like a bad speaker?

Could be an intermittent connection to a filter cap, possibly inside a cap itself. The cap sits there discharged and suddenly it gets connected to the circuit temporarily killing the B+ to part of the preamp while it charges up. Chop stick test should find it. Reality check: try the amp with a separate speaker cab on a long cable, and try the internal speakers with a different amp.
