  • Marshall 50w OT in Bandmaster Reverb?

I have a Bandmaster Reverb that I'm repairing. I've read that they used a smaller OT on these than on the Super or Pro Reverb. I have on hand an OT from a 50w Marshall 1987, would it work on the Fender and what would be the result? I like the idea of having the 4/8/16 taps, but not if it would lose the Fender tone.

    TT,

The Marshall tranny probably has a higher primary impedance than the Fender and would tend to be brighter - as best my memory serves. But if it fits "road testing" it should take less than an hour even if you have to remove it later. As long as you compensate your output tube bias for the higher load impedance why not try it and see?

It'll work fine. The primary will be a little lower - about 3.5K for the Marshall v. around 4K for a typical 2x6L6 Fender, but not enough to worry about.

The Prosonic OT is a great drop-in for these amps - it has the same footprint as the Bassman/Super OT (the BMR chassis is already drilled for it, since it was also used on the Super) and it has 4/8/16 outputs.

A Marshall impedance selector is a PERFECT fit in the accessory outlet hole, too.

Thanks for the heads up on the Prosonic OT, I think I'll order one. The Marshall would require some hacking of the chassis to fit.

I actually have one I bought from Andy Fuchs (from a conversion)...I was going to use it but the project evaporated. If you want it (cheap), PM me.
