  • Line 6 Spyder Just Hisses

I was given a Line 6 Spyder and all it does is hiss. I have tried the "reset" action (hold "A" while powering up) and no change. The only control that has any affect on the hiss is the Master Volume, which will make it louder. The EPROM chip inside is marked Spider 1.1 AA3E

I've poked around inside the amp with a chopstick with it powered up, and can effect no change. Any suggestions where to start (besides just sending it to the dump)?

To da dump to da dump to da dump dump dump?

....so should I just salvage the speaker and the cab and toss it or can I do something with it???

I would keep it all... use the cab and speaker for another project. I can't give you any advice on a fix but you never know... it might come in handy.

First of all check supplied voltages: +30V at U3:2 and U3:15,
        -30V at U3:4, +5V at U1:8 and -5V at U1:4.

Connect audio generator to input and verify signal existence at
ADC inputs U2:17 and U2:20 by means of scope.

If ADC input signals are intact, verify signal existence at DAC balanced
        outputs U2:23, 24, 25 and 26.

If DAC output signals are intact, you have a problem with LM4765
        output amp.

If DAC output signals are absent or incorrect, you have a problem
        in the digital section.

If this is the case, I will explain what to check in the next message.
It’s desirable, of course, to have some experience in the digital
        devices testing.

        Good luck.
