o/p jack wiring of ovation legend 1717

This o/p jack has 4 connections.As I have only encountered 3,on previous repairs(sig: shield:batt.switch) can anyone explain this.Is it ok to connect one of the wires (batt.switch) to shield as per most stereo jacks used for this purpose?
