  • Peavey Triple XXX Not switching to Clean Channel

I have a Peavey triple XXX Head on the bench for repair. The switch will change from Ultra to Crunch but wil not change to Clean. Currently there is no output from the amp at all. I have the schematics and have checked a few things but I am at a loss as to what it could be at this point. My hope is someone here has had this happen before.

Can you switch it from channel to channel without the footswitch plugged in. If not I would consider checking the footswitch jack or even changing if you have one.

I do not have the footswitch for this amp. I am doing it from the switch on the front.

Hi Bruce I know its been a while since you posted this but I have the exact same fault. Did you get to the bottom of it?

          Please help

          thanks Bryan

Supposedly several issues arise if the S1 switch is not very cleanly and tightly attached to the chassis as its pin3 MUST be securely grounded through the switch mounting to work. Past this there are multiple issues with dirty FX loop jacks and transistors that go out in the FX lood and channel switching circuits. Try cleaning the FX loop jacks with contact cleaner and cycling plugs. I don't think the XXX is like other PV amps which require a footswitch to access all channels. Many of the channel switching associated JFETs and relays can go off too. Good luck!

thanks for that though I have tried it all. I do get sound plugging into the efx return, so power section seems ok.
