Brownnote 18watt lite - Some strings tend to overload the amp

Just got this amp off ebay. It seems that some strings tend to over load the amp. Guitar sounds fine on another amp. I have adjusted the pickup height and pole pieces for an even sound. Has any one heard of this? is it tube related.

I went through that with a different amp. The unwound G string would break up before the others. I got around it by putting a lower gain tube in V1. Try a 12AY7 or a 5751 in place of the first 12AX7. It will make the amp a little less sensative. You'll still get your drive, but at slightly higher volume settings.
