  • Scratchy soundingPots

Is there something that works good that you can spray on scratchy sounding pots to quiten them down. They are only making the noise when turning them up or down. Once their set they seem fine.

Lots of electronic cleaners out there. I don't know which is best, but check Radio Shack. Sounds like the pots are just dirty.
    Good luck.

+1 on Caig. Sometimes you have to flush the debris out of the pot first with non-residue tuner cleaner. Then restore it with Caig and lube the shaft with a dab of light oil. Also you want to know if you have a leaky coupling cap and DC where it shouldn't be. It can sound like a dirty pot.

Since I haven't actually heard the amp, I don't know what the "scratchy" sound actually sounds like. If by any chance there is DC on the pot(s), no amount of cleaning will help it. This is caused by a bad coupling cap. An experienced ear will be able to tell the difference.

+1 on DeOxIt spray. It is only 5% DeOxIt. The rest is solvent, so you don't REALLY need to flush the pot out.

I have found a NEW miracle cure called Stabilant 22A. It works on some recalcitrant pots and tact switches when DeOxIt won't. THAT is a rare occasion, but it can and does happen. The only problem with Stabilant 22A is the price. Makes DeOxIt look cheap!

I recommend Caig FaderLube. It's a cleaner like DeOxit, but it also leaves behind a film of lube so that the pot stays in smooth operation.
