  • Hot Rod Deluxe Trouble

New guy here, a player, not an amp guy. Hot Rod Deluxe 1-12" went all brittle and bad sounding at stage volume. Normal channel breaking up way early. Looked it over, the 6L6 on the left cold and unlit. All connections look fine. This a common thing with these?
Any starting point suggestions welcome, after that I'll head to guitar store.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the place.

Your problem is not necessarily common, but is not unheard of either. If you switch the position of the two power tubes, does the problem stay with the socket or does it move with the tube?

If the same socket has the problem, then it could be a bad solder joint on the pc board or an open screen resistor or a bad output transformer.

If the problem moves with the tube, then you need to replace the output tubes.

Yes, I swapped the tubes and they both worked. Looks like socket. That was fast reply! Be checking back in a few hours.

52 Bill! You are truly my hero. I re-examined the socket's connections and could see hairline crack. Bolstered the courage and touched it with a hot iron. Tube working. I must admit, I am the worst solderer you have ever seen. Dare I strengthen these, or call it good? Got a friend that could do it, though.
Thank you more than you could know.
