Hi, I'm quite sure the El84 has a more than needed orange glow. Can anyone tell me what sort of voltages I should be expecting from the pins ( apart from the schematic tells me ) and maybe what else I should be looking for? Resistors and caps seem fine, theres no hum but I really dont want to do any damage. Saying this, could it just be that I need a new valve? I have a few old ones from radios and they all seem to glow too much so I deduced, possibly wrongly, that its something other than the valves.
    Thanks for your time

As the circuit diagram says, the cathode pin of the EL84 should be somewhere near 8V. If it's much over this then the valve may be drawing excessive current. Check the cathode bypass cap. See if the cathode resistor has overheated and changed resistance. Try that lot for starters.
