Unless one is shorted, I see no reason to change them. Find the problem first and solve it, THEN worry about swapping parts around. No point at all in adding potential questions while troubleshooting.

And same with drifting resistors. Many of the resistors are in circuits, so when you measure them without removing them first, various parallel circuit paths will alter the measurements. But mostly, the problem you are hqaving is blowing fuses, right? A drifted resistor won;t blow a fuse. Fix the problem first, THEN go about updating the thing.

      Thank you for your replies.
Before I fire this up, via lighbulb limiter, is there any particular settings (eq. volumes) that I should have this set at?
And leave it in standby - correct?

Right.....nothing from anybody... BUT.... got all preamp tubes in (3x12ax7 - 1x12at7).... Fired-up with lightbulb limiter (100w bulb) and all is dim. (the bulb, that is.)

Anybody want to help with step 2? (Yes, I DO appreciate ANY input)

If you are firing up the amp on the bulb to see if it is going to blow a fuse or something, then the volume and tone controls are irrelevant.

You can start the amp in standby, and if it lights your bulb that way, there is no point in flipping the standby switch at that point. But if the amp is OK in standby, evenetially you will have to turn the standby switch on, otherwise how will be know if it works?

Thanks Enzo.. was just trying to be safe.

              Installed 6L6's.. lightbulb limiter fine.
Take the amp out of standby and NO green status light or sound. - Lightbulb limier still fine.
Plugged amp direct to mains... same results as above.

              **Update**
Found that F1 popped... I now have sound (via signal generator).
I notice that the lightbulb limiter is brighter when the amp is switched out of stanby... is this normal?
Anything that I should be watching out for?

With no signal applied, monitor the speaker connectors for Vac.
Turn the pot until you have the lowest Vac reading that you can obtain.
Do I measure without a speaker connected?

                  It is a tube amp.
                  Yes, connect the speaker.

Hum balance pot - just adjust it by ear. Turn it back and forth and leave it where the hum is least. That is thwe whole point of the control is to set the hum as low as possible.

                        Here we go again...
Got around 20hrs of moderate running with audio source and no problems.
Sent it out and it blew F1 within half an hour at medium-to-high volume.
                        (Sounded good though)

Any idea on what to look for?

                          Peavey Encore 65

F1 is a 1amp fuse for the B+ high voltage rail.
Have you replaced the output tubes?
Or are they the same ones that have been in the amp since the repair started?
                          Have you done any resoldering?
I usually redo the output board (at least), since this takes a beating from thermal cycling.

New tubes..but they were there since the start of the thread. Checks fine on tubetester as well.
I flowed the joints around the tube sockets and fixed a burnt track around the CR7 and CR8 area. (was found bodged by a previous owner/repairer).

Now I'm stumped! - Slapped the 1amp fuse into the amp.. ran it on a crappy 8 ohm speaker... No probs.
Then, I had a few things to do so I put the amp in standby... Came back about 15 minutes later - turned on standby..no sound... Looked at power tubes and they were no longer lit. - Quickly switched back to stanby and the green light (indicator) stayed ON!!!

Freaky or what?? Btw... NO fuses blown.

Just checking cr4 and cr5 (SR2873) while I'm looking over the board; one measures 1.075 and the other 1.057 on my diode check. Are these in tolerance? Cannot find any specs online about these.
One of the solder joints is under the 8 pin tube socket, that I took out to check the pins, so I don't want to put the socket back in if I need to replace these.
