  • Output Transformer Failure?

    Hello all,

    I´m after a second opinion. I´ve a 4xEL34 guitar amp with a problem.

The HT climbs to 150V and starts to fall when power is applied. This is with no tubes and the HT supply disconnected after the first RC filter node. Disconnecting the output transformer from HT sees HT sit at 500 odd volts.

Is this the kind of thing that happens with a shorted OT?

Secondly, I´m on tour with my band for 10 weeks and we´d quite like to fix this. Any of the Euro forumites have any idea where to get an output transformer in Germany/Scandanavia? We will visit all these towns if that helps: Rostock, Linköping, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Malmö, Erfurt, Duisburg, Hamburg, Esslingen, Netzschkau, Dresden, Nuremberg, Landau, karlsruhe, and Frankfurt.

    Thanks!

    Harry

Are you able to measure current going into the OT centre tap - I'd expect the power transformer line fuse to blow if the output of the rectifier was getting loaded that heavily?

TAD should have a suitable OT, but I've no idea where they're near.

      Hi Harry,

I live in central Copenhagen, and I've got a 4xEL34 Partridge output transformer in great condition, if you need it then.

      Kind regards, Jake

Jake, that´s wonderful! We´ll be there October 1st, I´ll send you a message with my contact details.

pdf64, I was expecting the fuse to blow as well, that´s why I´m a little confused. We´re separated from our equipment at the moment (van broke down) but I will try and measure if poss.

        Thanks for the help!
