i have an '81 Ampeg V3. it has 2 channels (Hi and Low). it has a footswitch that turns on/off either channel. when the switch is not used it runs both channels at the same time. i noticed issues with the distortion a while ago, namely that it fizzles out funny and doesn't have any back end. finally i plugged in the footswitch and it turns out that channel one is inaudible. however, when i turned the amp all the way up and put a DOD pre-amp and a RAT pedal in front, also turned all the way up, the channel was very faintly audible but sounded great.
i have already switched out the 6550 power tubes to no avail. this amp also has 4x 12ax7's and one 12at7.
i am wondering if i should switch out the pre-amp tubes and if so which ones or all of them or is it a motherboard problem that requires attention from a team of experts.
can anybody help me out?
