  • '90s Fender Blues Deluxe wont make sound

So i've got a Fender blues deluxe from a friend that ask me to re-solder the input jacks cause they were broken. So i opened it up and sure enough they needed to be re-soldered. So i re-soldered them and no sound. So i looked more and found the horrible flaw of these amps. The 5w resistors that get so hot they un-solder themselves from the board. well this amp had gone so long with out being looked and and being left on for long periods of time. That now theres a burnt spot on the board that ruined the solder pads and one trace. But i fixed it and ran some jumpers to fix the circuit. but still no sound except a slight buzz. Now the buzz does get a little louder when adjusting the reverb knob but none of the other knobs effect it. any ideas?

O and i checked the voltage on the plates of the tubes and it all seems to be good. And i did do a pop test of the tubes and found that the second tube (12ax7) had a very queit (if any at all) pop. so hopefully that will help more.

    1) plug your guitar cord into the "power amp in" jack....any sound?
    2) plug your guitar into the input, and plug a second cord into the "preamp out" jack into another amp....any sound?

this helps you determine if the problem is in the preamp or poweramp sections.

Yes, those are the two main sources of trouble on those amps, the input jacks and the low voltage power supply.

If the input jack threads are stripped then the problem will return as they will flex against the board as they are used.

Was the amp working before you pulled the board and re-soldered things?

ya it was just the same buzz that im getting now. i did try swapping the tubes to see if they were bad but i don't have a full set of extra tubes. so i just did it one at a time and herd no difference.

ok so i plugged into the power amp in jack and the buzz got louder. i don't have another amp that only a power amp so would a be able to run that pre-amp through another pre-amp?
