  • does this sound like a bad solder?

I have a goodsell super 17 that has been cutting in and out, sometimes total signal loss, sometimes just so that it barely comes through and is very scratchy. I found that I can make it do this every time by hitting the amp on the top, not even hard, just bumping it will cause it to go in and out. before i tear into it, thought i'd double check, does that sound like a bad solder connection?

Either a bad solder joint or a dirty loop jack connection.

Does the amp have an effects loop or a power amp/preamp in out jack?

it does have an effects loop. it's run off the 2nd half of the phase 12ax7. I've never used it actually.

Try plugging in a spare patch cord from the FX send to the FX return jack. Does this restore the signal?

If it does then clean the jacks with Deoxit and work a plug in and out of each! Repeat if necessary!
