  • Mesa/Boogie S.O.B. tube question/idea

i've got an '85 SOB. it's a 100/60w model head. it's deceptively versatile for being such a simple amp. i love it.
anyway... i started thinking about the simul-class boogies and i wondered if i could do the same thing w/ my amp simply by putting yellow jackets into the two sockets that are engaged when the amp is in "60w" mode?
so, in theory i'd be running two EL84's in the "60w" mode, which would actually be more like 15-20w. but i would keep a pair of 6L6's in the other two sockets, so in "100w" mode i'd be pushing about 70w or so using both the EL84's AND the 6L6's.
is there anything fundamentally wrong with this idea? am i going to hurt my amp in any
way, or this actually a pretty solid idea?
in theory, assuming it sounds good, it's ingenius!
Working...
