  • super reverb earth issue

Hi, I have been working on this 73 super reverb, blackface mod, cap job. Had some issues with reverb that I fixed (thanks for the help everyone).
The last problem I have on an otherwise working amp is an earth issue. I get a clicking noise when touching the strings with one hand and it goes with both hands touching. Same if I touch any metal on the guitar or amp.
I am using a Sunpower step down transformer. I have checked cables and plugs for intact earth connection. I havent tried a new power cable from the amp, but did connect a seperate earth wire and touched chassis to see if that stopped it but it didnt.
Any other ideas? Are step down transformers to blame?
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers

I have seen that clicking on soooo many amps!
Most of the time it is simply your body discharging into the amp.
Gets worse when the relative humidity is low.

Thanks for the reply jazz P bass.
I tried a/b ing with another amp and there was no clicking so I think it must be somrthing to do with this amp. This is the only amp I need a step down tranny for so I cant a/b that with another amp, so I cant be sure.

It's not the step down tranny

Hi MWJB, any ideas what it could be?

Just a hunch; do you wear a quartz watch? Maybe the clicking comes from that (the SR might be more sensitive to this).

What is the amp that did not do the ticking?
Tube amps are worse than solid state amps.
I have a Peavey solid state bandit on the bench & it ticks.
Relative humidity (heater is running) is 52%.
Want to prove it is your body downloading a charge to the amp.
Get an ESD wrist strap & attach it to the guitar bridge.
              No more ticking.
