  • Crate Vintage Club 50 Issues

Hello gentlemen, I just wanted to get a quick opinion or two on a problem I have been dealing with for the last few months.

I have had a Crate Vintage Club 50 3x10 combo for a while now. I had purchased it used, and it worked fine when I got it, although it was a little beat up.

One day, the amp just stopped working. It would hum a little as if it were fine, but no guitar sounds would come out. When I opened it up, I discovered that one of the preamp tubes was all cracked and white, so I replaced it and the amp worked fine.

The same thing happened twice more in the following year: hum only, one cracked preamp tube (the same one.) The last time it happened, I didn't bother to change the tube, knowing it would just happen again.

One final thing to note is that when the amp did work, it's sound often fluctuated. Sometimes I would play for a while and all of a sudden, the guitar tone would change, usually becoming either tinny or fuller. The volume would often change as well.

Here are the schematics I found on the web:

Any ideas? I don't know too much about the workings of amps, but I have done a lot of research and I am stumped. Any help whatsoever is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Nothing electrical will crack a tube, that happens when something hits, bends, or otherwise stresses the glass.
