  • Question about Deoxit

After cleaning pots with Deoxit, does one need to then hit the pots with a lubricant or is it contained in the Deoxit? Thanks, Steven

I think that every tech has their own ritual. Many times I just spray a bit of Caig through the red tube into the pots and twist the crap out of them. (It has lubricant in the witches brew formula that remains when the solvent evaporates.) But, if I truely want to restore something and not have to do it again in weeks to months, I flush the pot out with non-residue tuner cleaner, spray it with Caig, then put a dab of light oil on the shaft. It helps to put a rag or paper towel under where you are doing all of this. If the pot is frozen, you want to remove it, soak the shaft in WD40 (be careful with that stuff), then take the pot apart and do all of the above. Many times with vintage restorations you may have to rebuild pots with the right case codes from a pile of old similar pots this way. Slider pots are a whole different ball game of course.
