  • Black Widow Speaker basket interchange

For a given size of a Peavey Black Widow speaker, 15 inch particularly, can any basket assembly be used with any magnet? For example, I have a 1502-4 BW that needs a new basket assembly.

I'd like to pull the magnet off the 1502 and use the replacement basket from a 1505-8KADT instead (so it'd be 8 ohms, with the Kevlar reinforced cone), the T-S numbers are virtually the same. I think the magnets are all the same but does anybody know for sure?

    Thanks!

Yes, PV knows. Call customer service at the factory and ask them.

I don't recall all the back compatibility of the various versions of BW. I don't think it is 100%, but there is considerable overlap.

It's pretty much like Enzo said. There IS a lot of overlap, and both of those 15's have 4" voice coils. What matters is the "hanging" of the coil winding, which must be vertically-centered EXACTLY within the "motor plate" depth, which is the top iron plate over the magnet where the basket sits. If it is not centered, the voice coil will travel more in one direction than the other, reducing efficiency and output. When reconing speakers with kits that are not pre-built (like the kind you get from JBL, RCF, et al), this is the single most crucial measurement.

Thanks guys, I may just leave this speaker like it is and use it in a guitar cab rather than bass, and put a newer driver in the bass cab.
