  • Variac (GE Volt-pac) Wiring Guidance Requested

    Please help me set up this Variac type unit I found. Where do the 115-120 volt ac inputs go?
    There is a top wiper, and a bottom wiper (labelled #3) under it with 2 spade terminals sticking outboard.

    There are double spade terminals on a block labelled from left to right as follows.

    #2 - first position on lower winding.
    space
    #4 - second position on winding
    #5 - third position on winding
    #6 - fourth position on winding
    #1 - upper position on beginning (or end) of winding
    #7 - three spade connectors not connected to anything. Can be jumpered to bottom wiper or elsewhere.

    Obviously, the various positions on the winding provide different fixed voltage outputs.

    Thanks for your help. Please see Pictures included.

    How about a manufacturer & model #.
    Did you try to consult the manufacturers data on the unit.

      Google = Friend:

      http://www.superiorelectric.com/volt...ac_catalog.pdf

      Your particular model isn't there, but about 1/3 of the way down page 8, you'll find a diagram for the "SINGLE-PHASE, SINGLE-CORE, 120-VOLT OR 240-VOLT INPUT, 0-240/280-VOLT OUTPUT" that has 7 terminals. Check that your taps & ends of the winding are wire to the same terminals. Even though it looks like a 0-240/280Vout unit, you can (should?) wire it for 120V out...
