I've got a red led that is open on a P/N 0057025000 footswitch for a Fender Twin Amp. The thing that sucks is the tremolo switch has to be closed in order for the channel select to work with the tremolo led open. I'm looking for a replacement that will fit into the square hole. I don't have micrometers. 4mm sq? 5mm sq? Should I call Fender? It looks like many of todays Fender use the same LED. Does anybody know of a source? Thanks, - Pat.

I don't know what the size is without holding it in front of me, but you don;t need a micrometer. However, they do sell perfectly functional plastic ones for $2 at Harbor Freight. Don;t you have a ruler or tape measure with millimeters on it?
Wait, I have one. And I dug out the parts list. They are square 5x5mm LEDs. They are common LEDs, get them anywhere that sells LEDs. Mouser, Digikey, Jameco, etc.
These LEDs are part of the switching circuit, and the circuit relies upon their voltage drops, so resist the urge to get fancy colors, other colors have other voltage drops.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Thanks Enzo. I'm a loser because I don't have a metric ruler and because I can't keep any rulers available while I have school age kids in the house. Good point on the color, but, I was not enticed into any other color but red. I can't find any 5mm sq Red LED's at Mouser or Jameco. Digikey does list some, none in stock, and it appears there is a minimum qty. Where do I turn next? - Pat.

Mouser - standard LED - through hole - 5x5mm - red
Stock numbers, both in stock.:
696-SSL-LX5573SRD
696-SSLLX55103IDFL
Newark also has a couple in stock
The voltage matters, so measure the voltage drop across one of the other LEDs in that unit so you know what you need.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
