Yeah there is one I did not think of.
    The speaker leads.
The speaker baffle will have to be removed if it is a sealed back cabinet.

      Hey experts,

First I would like to say that I greatly appreciate your assistance
      and patience.
      Success!!
I was finally able get the chassis out by loosening the front grill
(its a metal one on this oldie) It was so tight up against the bottom
of the chassis, that little bit of wiggle room and working it out as you
      recommended did the trick.

I replaced Q1 and bingo -- I now have both channels.

Lots of carpet in my room and I think static electricity
did it in to begin with . Need to discharge myself
before touching the amp and bring the humidity up.

      Thanks again and
      All the best ----

Nice theory, but I think that transistor is pretty well protected in there. It is within the metal chassis, and any static discharge will go to the chassis, having no real way to get at that transistor. If you charged up and staticked the tip of a guitar cord plugged in, you would likely zap the input device, rather than that transistor. In any circuit, the most vulnerable parts are those that connect to the outside world - usually at a jack.

I think you just had a random part failure.

However, static can be annoying even if not harmful. Try this, dilute some Downy fabric softener into a spray bottle, and spray some on your carpet. That will cut down static a lot, plus make the room smell April fresh. You probably could tape a couple dryer sheets to your shoes and scuff around the room, but that seems harder.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
