  • Power trans "gurgling"

    YIKES!

Got a Fender "Twin" nice shape, sounds like intermittant cement power resistors....throw it on the bench, fire it up and I hear this "gurgling noise from the power transformer....sounds like an egg frying.....FFUUUU...

I've replaced a couple of these in the last few years.
    Anyone else see these fail?

Transformer in this particular model? No. Transformers? Yes. Even Fender transformers, yes.

If your transformer is bubbling inside, that is the potting goop boiling. Kiss it goodbye.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

I don't know if it's common or not, but I've had the same experience with these models (The Twin) as well, overheating power transformers. Two in maybe the last 2 years.
