  • Help with Vox AC30 CC2

Lemme try and explain this. Also, sorry if this is common. I've been gigging for years with an old Traynor and have never experienced this.

When I turn on the amp there is a whoosh of soft static like shshSHSHShshsh, then fades. When I play low notes I also hear the same whoosh as the note decays. Finally I hear the same thing when I put the amp into standby. I replaced all of the preamp tubes and it still does the same thing. The amp sounds great otherwise. I've been gigging with the amp since last February, including a 22 date tour. I crank it pretty good, no metal though, and no humbuckers. No drive pedals really either. Let's see, err, I can't really think of any other relevant info. Oh, got it from guitar center off the floor, so I have no idea how many times "For Whom the Bell Tolls" has been raped on it. Also, tube rectifier.

    Ideas? Suggestions?

Replace output tubes with a matched set.

though it's never a bad idea to swap tubes (as rg pointed out, there's a reason they're mounted in sockets!), what your describing SOUNDS to me like a bad plate resistor.
