Howdy folks. Hope someone can provide some advice. So, my Bugera had the dreaded power connector melt issue. Pulled the connector, cleaned the post, snipped and soldered the wires directly to the pins. Nice and clean.
Powered the amp on, let it warm up for 5 minutes. Flipped the standyby and began playing. The amp was working but it definitely was not at the volumes previous to the connector burning. I could not turn this amp past 1 in my room, yet I had it at 3 now, as it still was not as loud as1 previous was. I played a riff or 2, and my buddy did a little drum beat on my amp (Just a little bada bump, nothing hard), when all of a sudden FULL volume (and on 3 WOW, that was loud), then it went back to not being as loud again. So I turned if off, and asked for advice.
Based on advice, I pulled each powertube (which had been pulled previously to working on the power connector as well), and sprayed each with some contact cleaner, and seated and unseated them a few times to clean up the socket. Let it dry for a while, about an hour, then powered it on in standyby mode and let it warm up.
As soon as I flipped the standyby switch to on, with all volumes and gains turned to 0,, all I heard was this popping and static, the static is constant, and loud. The pops are even louder. I immediately turned it off. I tried it again today, and its the same, even with all volumes turned down, there is nothing but static and popping now coming from the speakers.
Haven't dared attempt to even turn the volume up and try to play a guitar through it. Is this something as simple as my tubes going, or did I most likely F something up when repairing the power connector? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks for reading.
