  • Fender Princeton Reverb Silverface crackling

    Hi,

I'm facing a problem with my Fender Princeton Reverb. It makes cracks starting at 4 on volume knob.
I've already changed speaker (for a weber), tubes, and electrolytic capacitors. They all had to be changed, i think, but the problem still remains.
Following testings, i found the cause of this issue. It comes from the reverb. When i disconnect the reverb tank, the amp works fine, no crackling. So i suppose there is a problem with this part of the circuit.
I've check the reverb tank : all seems to be fine, no broken wire. Also checked solder joints near the reverb jacks, again i've found nothing suspicious.
Would it be because of the reverb driver?

thanks for any kind of help!

    regards,

    Ed.

The second tube in from the input jack is the reverb driver V2.
    It should be a 12AT7.
Try another tube in this position.
    V3 is the recovery tube.

      Hi,

Ok, but i've changed all tubes with new JJ ones (this is the first thing i did). You think it could be a tube sockets failure?

      thanks,

      Ed.

A friend of mine had a similar problem, check all the wires going to the tube sockets and see if something is touching where it shouldn't be. Tap with a chopstick and see what you find.
