Can anyone ID the component in this pix:
Mvox | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Lower R corner....the metal cased job. I'm thinking it may be a detector diode, but its so blown up I can't make out any markings on the case.

The chassis is from a 40s Magnavox console I was commissioned to recap (whatta job that was) and this mystery component is holding up the job.

    Any takers?

It may help if you describe the circuit that is involved.
    What is it attached to.
Where does it go. Looks like a tube socket.
    What circuit is involved.

Its the small silver metal canister pointing downward under the tan mica cap. What yer looking at is the RF coil above it. Its in the tuning circuit, but I don't have the schematic that matches this chassis.

From some insight via rec.antiques.radio+phono, it looks like this may have been a temperture compensating cap. This makes sense....its a metal cased component so that would sense temp better than a paper cased cap.

May be more likely to find a schematic (which I'm sure you would like even if you find that part).
          What is the model/chassis?

Magnavox CR154. Now that I know it was a cap, I can see where it was on the paperwork. I have the schemo, but that part was not ID'd....only a number. No value/voltage. Looks like its not too critical....just to keep the tuner from drifting like a "tempco" does in an analog synth VCO.
