Enzo good to see you back! Hope you're handling things okay. Dealing with health problems is scary and frustrating all at the same time. I was in the ER 3 times in February. It blows. Doctors tend to not explain things well enough nor do they tend to provide any assurance that you WILL get better. Anyway not to get too personal but I feel for you. I'm sure you're getting sympathetic responses from just about every post you're giving these days so sorry to be redundant... but Shit it feels good to hear about someone else's situation sometimes. Cheers!

I stopped taking in solid state hifi stuff a little while ago. For the following reasons:

      1. I am busy enough with muso and tube gear
      2. Too many hifi firms never call you back and when they do it's to say either "that will be £250" or " don't stock em".
      3. +1 on old Marantz, Yamaha (especially Yamaha) etc gear being well built and fixable, but...
      4. Schemos are hard to come by, and some of the circuits can be a wee bit esoteric, so...
      5. It can take a little longer to figure the thing out, and...
      6. before very long you're getting to the point where it would be cheaper to junk it and buy another.

I do however sympathise with the owner of some £1000+ amp that is just out of warranty and dead. Of course the boards are mass-produced SMD like everything else, the transformers are not hugely expensive items either, and if the manufacturers cared at all about customer support they would simply stock replacement parts, as they are clearly pretty cheap items. But no. So the poor guy has either to suck it up and buy another, or try to get me to fiddle about in there...
