5e3x2 with vvr loss of volume over time

I built this amp for a buddy of mine. a few months ago. Lately after its been on say 30 mins or so the volume starts dropping like someone is playing with the vol. knob? It will drop to barely audible for a few seconds then come back. It will then be fine for a while and do the whole thing over again? Ive not witnessed this but the guy I built it for said at practice he noticed the fading in & out thing and also by the end of the practice he had to turn both the vvr and vol up from around 3 to max? any ideas or opinions will be appreciated!

At this point it'd be speculation. What you need to do is get it back, let it do a good heat soak and check the voltages.
