  • Fender Super Amp 5B4

    Hey

I have a Fender Super Amp 5B4 from 59ī I donīt have any experience on how such amp should sound, but I think it distort pretty fast, not like a 5E3, that first distort about half way up.

I have checked all components and changed the tubes, and it should run quite right, any have some information or maybe some mods for such amp?

    I think the 5b4 would've been more like 1952.

The early break-up is normal for those old amps

Don't mod it at all. Its worth far too much money in original condition

Maybe the amp is older than 59īI donīt really know, Iīve been told 59ī

The amp is unfortunately not in original condition, all the components, the power trafo and speakers has been changed over the years.

I know that such kind of amps breakup very quickly, but so quickly, wow I donīt need an od pedal for this amp thatīs for sure. The amp donīt ned power and plays loud enough, so nothing is wrong in the power section, it draws a little to much current, but itīs nothing to be worried about.

Itīs a cool looking tweed amp, weighs little, but Iīd hopped it was little more clean sounding amp )

by 1959 the super had 'evolved to the 5F4 series (which was in production from 1956 to 1960). The 5E4 and 5E4a were in 1955 AFAICT the 5D4 was between 1953 and 1955. Other fender amps from the '50s had the 5B series around 1952, so I am deducing that that was when the 5B4 was around.

Maybe your amp is a later model? or does it have the 3 x 6SC7 in the preamp and 2 x 6L6 and a 5U4G rectifier, with 2 vol controls and a tone control on the topside? and the 'TV-front' style?

low-output single-coil guitar w/guitar volume control rolled back slightly...plug into the low-gain input. that's as clean as she'll get
