Peavey XXX volume problems

I could use anyones help on this one.

I have a Peavey XXX and I have recently been experiencing problems where when I am turned up to 8 its as if im at 1. This is crucial because I have a lot of gigs coming up. I have read that it could be the power supply. Im not sure i just need it fixed asap.

Plug a spare cord from FX send to FX return. ANy help?

Next time it happens, plug the guitar into the FX return jack. Is the resulting sound strong and clear (the preamp controls will do nothing) or does it still have the problem? That tested the power amp.

Plug a cord from FX send to some other amp, listen there to what is coming from your preamp.. Is it strong and clear, or does it have the problem. Hopefully this will determine if the preamp or power amp is at fault.
