  • AC30CC2 standby LED

Is the green standby LED suppose to pulse with the tremelo on. I've noticed that the B+ varies with the tremelo too.

Mine did that with the original tubes in it before I changed them out.

Which tubes did you change...pre amp or power?

I replaced the original EH power tubes with JJs and the rectifier tube with an old Mullard I had hanging around. I ended up changing all the preamp tubes as well but that was for tone. It gave me an excuse to power it up and the lamp doesn't flicker any more.

The standby LED is very similar to the Peavey arrangment as used in 5150 and others. The LED itself runs off a low voltage rail. The B+ at the screen node is sampled off to the base of the transistor that controls the LED. There is no pulsing designed into it directly. If the screen node B+ bounces, then the LED current could be expected to fluctuate as well.

The trem sends a LFO signal into the EL84 grid return resistor tree. So the trem can modulate the tube current, and that could affect B+ voltage.

Vox could be aware of the effect, and it doesn;t hurt anything. Not thinking it was on purpose though.

Thanks for the advice. I just didn't want to go chasing my tail for a non critical issue.
Time is money as you guys well know.
