Here's one for the WTF files. Ampeg Portabass 2-12 neo comes in with
the complaint of buzzy sound. Tear off the front grille, tap spkr
cones, yep....warped coil former. One of the drivers was bad, the
other ok....so I unbolt the magnet assy and whack it with a mallet to
remove it and check out the failure mode. Typical overheated VC, but
check this out....

HUH? That has got to be the most cut-corner neo magnet assy I've ever
seen.
What....utter.....f****n'.....junk.
Mfgr of these drivers is Aura/Aurasound. They make those "bass shaker"
things that are used in home theatre setups to rattle seats in tandem
with low freq audio content. Apparently no one clued them in on how to
mfgr a MI speaker.
No wonder they have a rep for blowing up...the magnet is so weak they
can't get a good spl without putting the boots to 'em.
