VOX Valvetronix AD60VT does not reset ?!

Hi,

I have this amp and the volume is dropping out sometimes. When turning the amp selector switch the amp cuts even off (non sound) sometimes. In that event, plugging the guitar into the FX return works. I guess it is a software problem.
The manual says to restore factory settings one should press the arrow up and down + tuner buttons and power up the thing.
I did this. 100 times. It does not work. The three buttons work while the amp is on.

Any ideas ?

CLick on the manual mode. Now do all the controls seem to work as expected?

One thing I had to get used to at first was that the control setting does not always tell you what is going on. REgardless of where the knobs are pointing, when you call up a preset patch, the amp ignores those panel knobs until you move them. Then it changes to whatever that knob is now set for. So if you have a loud patch set up, and then switch to some other patch where the stock settings are not loud, the amp will drop in loudness until you move the controls to get it where you like. Even if they were sitting at pretty high setting on the previous patch. I hope that clumsy description is somewhat clear. IN other words if I have the volume at 9 on patch A and patch B in memory has the volume on 2, when I play patch A, then click on patch B, B will come out at volume 2, even though the knob is still pointing at 9 from when we were on patch A. But as soon as I move the knob, it then becomes active.

COuld that be what you are experiencing? Or does the sound go away without touching anything? If that is what it does, try plugging a spare cord from FX send to FX return. Does that bring it back? Also, the powr level control on the back seems to get dirty more often that the rest of the controls, and cause loss of volume.

yeah, strange knob behavior for an old guy like me!!
The manual mode works as expected. By extensively rotating the amp-select-knob, the amp can be set quiet.
Inserting a patch cable into the FX jacks does nothing.
Plugging the guitars cable into the FX return brings back the PA sound.
Changing from manual to a preset brings back the sound but it is kind of slowly fading in.

The low input jack did not work. There were high amounts of sand inside both input jacks. I have cleaned all jacks and the power selector switch.

Maybe the input jacks were the reason and were "triggered" by the vibration caused by rotating the amp selector knob.......hard to believe.....

However, it seems to work for now but it is still strange that the amp canīt be reseted - isīn it ?
